Add These Ingredients To Your Routine To Tackle Various Hair Concerns

Perfumed shampoos may leave your hair smelling fresh and lovely for a couple of days but do they have the right ingredients to maintain the health of your scalp? The more we learn about scalp health and the benefits of using the right products, the more choosy we’re becoming about the ingredients that go into our shampoos, conditioners, hair tonics and treatments. We break down exactly which ingredients need to go into your scalp care routine to tackle various scalp issues.

Sensitive Scalp

A sensitive scalp could be caused by a compromised skin barrier and is prone to redness, maybe tender to the touch, can feel tight and even experience some tingling. You want to include ingredients that are strengthening, hydrating and soothing. All the Papilla By Kim Lim products feature ceramides that help “cement” skin cells together to lock in moisture and strengthen the scalp’s natural defences to keep out germs and bacteria. The good bacteria lactobacillus, found in the Hair Regeneration Tonic with PhytoKines, further helps to strengthen the skin barrier. Soothing ingredients like centella asiatica or cica, which are found in our shampoos and tonics, and niacinamide, found in all our products further help to reduce inflammation and calm the skin on the scalp.

Itchiness

If you experience frequent itching of the scalp, adding ingredients like Bisabolol and tea tree extract to your scalp care routine can help. Bisabolol, found in the Calm Complex in Hair Rewind Anti-Hair Loss Shampoo is an active ingredient in chamomile and helps soothe the scalp and relieve itching. Tea tree extract, which is also found in the same shampoo, has antimicrobial and antifungal benefits that help prevent and control dandruff.

Oily Scalp

The key to balancing an oily scalp is to make sure it is well hydrated and moisturised so the sebaceous glands don’t feel the need to secrete excess oil. Ingredients like hyaluronic acid, panthenol and saccharide isomerate are humectants that draw in moisture and lock it in helping to keep the scalp moisturised. Plus, saccharide isomerate has a soothing effect on the scalp and panthenol helps minimise frizz by sealing the cuticle of each strand.

Ageing Scalp

You know your scalp is ageing when you see that first white hair and find your hair thinning. This ageing process is further exacerbated by excessive exposure to UV rays, pollution and other environmental factors. Adding an ingredient like vitamin C, which is rich in antioxidants and fights free radical damage and oxidative stress is key to slowing scalp ageing. Tuber fleeceflower is another ingredient that helps maintain hair colour by activating melanin production while also increasing the number and size of hair follicles for overall rejuvenation of the scalp and hair. Flaxseed extract also helps conserve melanin and helps with melanin synthesis to maintain and preserve your natural hair colour for longer. The latter two ingredients are found in the Anti Greying range of shampoos and conditioner masks.
